Spoons

after a display of 17th century silver spoons,
Holburne Museum, Bath

So many spoons hanging in the glass case
So many tongues licking the tarnished spoons
So many meats enticing the forked tongues
So many cooks roasting the bloody meats
So many dawns startling the roosting cooks
So many nights dying to sleepless dawns
So many footfalls treading through raw nights
So many ears hearing secret footfalls
So many words worming through artless ears
So many kisses peddling for sweet words
So many hearts swinging on thin kisses
So many glasses drinking broken hearts
So many spoons stirring the cut glasses
So many mouths mooning for silver spoons
